Lakeside students were recognized for their achievements at Honors Night on 4/22/25. Three of Lakeside’s outstanding students received scholarships from the Lakeside Foundation of $2,000 each to be used for their college expenses.

The James “Jimmy Mac” McMahan scholarship, which focuses on community service and leadership at Lakeside and in the larger community, was awarded to Cole Jones. Cole also maintained a 4.0 GPA at Lakeside, while taking 10 AP classes and being dual-enrolled at Georgia State. During his 4 years at Lakeside, Cole has been involved in a wide variety of service clubs, academic teams, and honor societies, including NHS, SGA, Reading Bowl, Academic Bowl, Interact, Key Club, French Club, Government and Politics Club, and many more. Cole was chosen to be Captain or President of 8 of these organizations. His dedication to Lakeside is just the beginning of Cole’s community service. As a member of Oak Grove Community Church, he has served as a member of the Youth Choir, Chancel Choir, Audio Visual Team, Student Leadership Team, and As a Church Delegate for the North Georgia Conference. Cole has volunteered on countless service projects and mission trips to support underprivileged populations locally and internationally. He has been praised as “a commanding leader, without being authoritative” and as having “an infectious positive attitude.” Cole plans to study Political Science at University of Georgia and hopes to serve as a Senator one day.

The Lakeside Foundation is pleased to provide these scholarships to recognize outstanding students and honor the legacies of Joe Reed, Jim McMahan, and Daniel Gordon. This year, we were fortunate to be able to double the scholarship values from $1,000 each to $2,000 each, thanks to the generosity of a proud 2007 Lakeside alumnus. We welcome your tax deductible gifts to fund future scholarships. Monthly or one-time donations can be made anytime using the donation button on the Lakeside Foundation website.
